IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity and knowing/jotting down the IMEI number of your mobile device is quite useful, as because if your device gets lost or stolen in future, then only this number can help you track it.
Also, if you want to connect your device to the internet using your Wi-Fi network and you have enabled MAC Address Filtering (setting up a list of specific communication devices which can access the internet) for it, then you need to enter your device’s media access control address in the filtering list of your router.
Following are the ways by which you can find the IMEI number and MAC Address (step 4) of your mobile device:
1. Using the Phone Dialler
You can dial *#06# using the touch screen dialler and the OS will instantly show you the IMEI number of your device.
2. From device’s Box or Bill
The IMEI number of your device is also printed on its packaging box as well as on the the bill (invoice), which you got at the time of its purchase:
3. Printed on a sticker under the battery
If your device’s back cover and battery can be removed, then you will find a sticker under the battery on which IMEI number is printed:
4. From Device’s Settings
On Android’s home screen, tap on the Menu button and then select settings:
Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page and here you will see About Phone/Tablet written. Tap on it:
On the next screen i.e. About Phone, you will see Status written. Tap on it:
Scroll down to the bottom of the status page and you can easily find your devices IMEI number as well as its MAC Address:
In case you are using Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or later, then you need to go to Homescreen Menu >> Settings >> More >> About Device >> Status to see your device’s IMEI number and MAC Address.
